This new Lookback iOS app looks pretty slick but requires you to put code in your iOS app in order to use it. So if your developers are willing, which seems like a more common trend, you can try it out. It lets you record screen, webcam, and taps while running in the background of your own app. And it can work for others apps on iOS if you jailbreak a phone to have around for testing. Need to test it out on an iOS app to see how it goes!
The basic challenge of recording a mobile device during research is still a really big one. The biggest companies and brightest researchers all have hacked together their own fancy holders or downward facing cameras, but there isn’t a great device-based recording solution. Lookback could be that solution, but the thing is it really will only work on internal dev builds. And researchers don’t usually have a ton of access to iOS or Android developers at most companies. But can’t wait to try it out!
